Seaglass Returns This Weekend!

In celebration of Seaglass returning this weekend (!!!), we asked our studio manager + glaze extraordinair, Lydia, to explain how she formulates the glaze --

“The makings of our Seaglass glaze start as all of our satin matte glazes start, with our base glaze recipe. Formulated intentionally to create a smooth buttery surface, and adding different ratios of minerals and stain colorants to water.

Seaglass is made of 3 different colors to create the complex blue color. The materials are mixed with a power drill which creates a glaze slurry, similar to the consistency of melted ice cream.

Then, we wait. It takes around 3 days for all the elements, in my personal terminology, to ‘marinate’ and bond with the water for even distribution. After this period, we pour the glaze through a sieve to get out any bigger impurities (like dog hair 😉).

Finally, it's ready! We dip our bisque fired products into the glaze and fire to 2200*F for a product that will last a lifetime.”

Mugs, dinner + side plates, and pasta, side, + entree bowls will all be available in Seaglass this weekend, January 26-28! We’ll also be selling sets in Seaglass for those of you wanting to add to your collection.

We can’t wait!
